Hi, my name is Sara. I’m a middle/high librarian in southern Florida and…I read. People are always shocked when I tell them that 1. I spend work days reading and 2. that I actually finished the whole book in one day. I’ve always been a ‘reader’. Reading to me is as essential as breathing, chocolate, and a good glass of wine…it’s something I couldn’t live without. My husband claims that giving me a Nook was like giving an addict an unlimited supply…thank goodness libraries give out books for free!
While I admittedly read voraciously, it’s impossible to keep up with all of your book options. As a librarian I often turn to the internet when looking for new books to add to my collection, or to find quick and dirty booktalks of book I haven’t read yet for recommendations. When dealing with reluctant teen readers I needed a booktalk or review that packed a “big bang” so as to entice them in this age of blockbuster previews. What happened was that I needed blockbuster and often found wet rags instead. Soon I found myself writing my own booktalks (occasionally stealing a good line from the publisher or reviewer) and I thought that others may want these attention grabbing blurbs as well. One student even told me my booktalks “were better than what was on the back of the book” lol, high praise I tell you! So here we are, feel free to use any booktalk or review you find on my site…If it helps you put one more good book in a teen’s hands I’ve done my duty.
Wow! This is great Sara. Keep up the good work. What a neat site!
Hi Sara -Thanks so much for taking the time to create this site. It’s been helpful in finding new books for Evi and John to read. They are 12 and 11 years of age and are always searching for something new to read!!!
Sara – Thank you. If you ever need anything, just give me a shout.
Sara – Please contact me at CharlesBenoit.com I have an idea…
I don’t know you, Sara, but you seem a lot like me. I’m a librarian, have a penchant for the Brotherhood of the Black Dagger, and recommended the same books for the summer reading list for my school. I will be interested as to what they say.
You go, girl!
Thanks! I’ll keep u informed…
nook is awesome. (I just had to comment on that *grins*)
I love your blog already 🙂
You are able to spend your work days reading? I did not get that luxury as a public librarian. JEALOUS! 🙂
Ahh, these days are few and far between though…Most of my time is spent answering the most random questions, helping teachers, and fixing the printer! But during the slow moments…like my lunch and after school periods…having the time to read a bit is wonderful 😉
Just discovered your blog recently and I love the variety of books you review! I’m just beginning my public library career and love finding good blogs that help me discover new titles! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts with the world!
I would love to be a librarian but I don’t know if I could do the 2-3 teaching to get into the Masters program. I’m working towards a BA in English.
Hi! I wrote a comment to your TGIF post, and it’s not showing…maybe it’s in your spam folder? I hope you fix that. Thanks!
